Work-mode
Terms of Service
Last updated: 26 September 2026
These terms govern your use of Work-mode. In plain terms: it's your device, Work-mode only changes settings you configure, everything is reversible, and it is a helpful nudge — not a security control.
The short version. Work-mode helps you switch your own computer between a work and a personal setup. It changes only the settings you (or your organisation) configure, always snapshots the original first, and uninstalls cleanly. It is a behavioural nudge, not a security boundary — it does not separate or protect data and must not be relied on as if it did.
1. Who we are and acceptance
Work-mode is provided by Captivated Ltd, registered in England & Wales (company number 15936109, registered office Electric Works, 3 Concourse Way, Sheffield, S1 2BJ, United Kingdom). By downloading, installing, or using Work-mode you agree to these terms. If you use Work-mode on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to accept them for it.
2. What Work-mode is (and isn't)
Work-mode is a productivity and workspace-management tool. It changes device settings — such as wallpaper, pinned apps, browser profile, notifications, and file locations — to reflect a "work" or "personal" mode.
Work-mode is not an MDM, an anti-virus, a data-loss-prevention product, or any other security control. It provides no guarantee of data separation, confidentiality, or protection. Anyone with normal access to the device can see across both modes; the value is reduced distraction and fewer mistakes, not enforcement.
3. Licence
- Personal / unmanaged use is free. If you install and configure Work-mode yourself, you may use it at no charge on your own device(s), subject to these terms.
- Managed / organisation use requires a paid licence. Any fleet mechanism — portal-distributed configuration, zero-touch provisioning, organisation branding, MSP multi-tenant management, single sign-on, or the Assurance layer — requires an active paid licence for the number of activated device seats.
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Work-mode for its intended purpose. You may not resell, sublicense, or provide Work-mode as a managed service to third parties without an appropriate licence. You may not remove or bypass licensing, or use the software unlawfully.
4. Your device, your responsibility
Work-mode acts on the device it is installed on, applying the settings you or your organisation configure. Before changing a setting it snapshots the previous state so it can be restored, and it can be uninstalled cleanly at any time. You are responsible for the configuration you choose and for having the rights to apply it on the device.
5. Graceful degradation
Some features depend on the operating system and version and may not be available everywhere. When a feature can't run, Work-mode skips it and continues — it is designed never to block a mode switch because one feature failed. Feature availability may change over time.
6. Third-party software and systems
Work-mode interacts with the operating system and with third-party software (for example browsers, VPN clients, or security tools). We are not responsible for those products' behaviour, and security software may occasionally flag a tool that changes system settings — see ournotes on anti-virus false positives.
7. Updates
Work-mode can check for and install signed updates. Updates are verified cryptographically before installation. For unmanaged installs, update checks run only when you initiate them or enable the optional check-on-launch setting.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Work-mode to deceive or harm others, to breach any policy you are bound by, to interfere with the software's integrity or licensing, or to reverse-engineer it except to the extent the law permits.
9. Warranty disclaimer
Work-mode is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent permitted by law, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded (including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud).
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of data, profits, or business, arising from your use of Work-mode. Because Work-mode is a behavioural tool and not a security control, we are not liable for outcomes that a security control would be expected to prevent. For paid plans, our total liability in any 12-month period is limited to the fees you paid in that period; for free use, to £100.
11. Termination
You may stop using and uninstall Work-mode at any time. We may suspend or end a licence for breach of these terms. On termination of a paid licence, managed features stop applying; your local settings remain until you change or remove them.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England & Wales, and the courts of England & Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rights in your country of residence.
13. Changes
We may update these terms; we will revise the "last updated" date and, for material changes affecting organisations, notify through the portal. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
