Uninstall & zero residue
Last updated: 26 September 2026
It's your device, so removing Work-mode should leave no trace. Here's how, and how to check.
Before you remove it
Switch to Personal first if you want your original setup back in place. Work-mode restores the settings it changed from the snapshot it took before it first touched them — wallpaper, pinned apps, folder locations, and so on. It never closes or deletes your apps or files.
Remove it — macOS
- Click the Work-mode tray icon → Quit.
- Open Applications and move Work-mode to the Trash.
- That's it. To also clear its local settings and login item, remove:
- its app-support folder in
~/Library/Application Support/(named for Work-mode), and - its login item under System Settings → General → Login Items (it will already be gone once the app is removed).
- its app-support folder in
What "zero residue" means
Work-mode does not install kernel extensions, background daemons that survive removal, or system-wide agents on a personal install. Its footprint is: the app itself, a local settings database in your user Library, and a per-user login item so it can start with you. Remove those three and nothing of Work-mode remains.
Managed devices: if an organisation deployed Work-mode, your administrator manages removal (and any clean-offboarding record) centrally.
Confirm nothing is left
- The app is gone from Applications.
- No Work-mode item in Login Items.
- No Work-mode folder under
~/Library/Application Support/. - Your wallpaper, Dock, and folders are back to how you had them (if you switched to Personal first).
