Frequently asked questions

Is Work-mode free?
Yes, for personal and unmanaged use — install it yourself, configure it yourself, on your own device, at no charge. Organisations pay when theymanage a fleet (pushed configuration, zero-touch provisioning, branding, SSO, or the Assurance layer). See pricing.
Is this an MDM or a security tool?
No. Work-mode is a productivity and workspace tool — a behavioural nudge that reshapes your desktop per mode. It does not separate or protect data and shouldn't be relied on as if it did. It's complementary to MDM/security tools, not a replacement.
Can my employer see my personal activity?
No. Work-mode never reads your files, browsing, location, keystrokes, or app list. On a managed device it reports only coarse, non-personal status; with the optional Assurance layer, only device-health booleans under an opaque ID that your organisation — not Work-mode — can map to you. Details:what it can & can't see.
Which operating systems are supported?
macOS 11+ (Apple Silicon) is available now. Windows 10/11 is in final signing and coming soon. Each feature declares its own platform support and is skipped where unavailable.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Work-mode is local-first: it works fully offline with your local configuration. For managed installs, the portal is a convenience for distributing config, never a requirement to switch modes.
Will it change or lose my files or apps?
No. It changes settings (like wallpaper and folder locations), snapshotting the previous value first, and it never closes or deletes your apps or files. Switching back or uninstalling restores what it changed.
How do I remove it?
See uninstall & zero residue — it removes cleanly and leaves nothing behind.
Does it slow my computer down?
No. It's a lightweight menu-bar/tray agent that does work only at the moment you switch modes; the rest of the time it sits idle.
